Requirements Placed on
the new Homeowners
Sweat Equity – The
new homeowners are required to invest at least 400
hours of “sweat equity” towards their
new home, 100 hours before lot/home selection and
at least 300 hours prior to move-in.
Classes – Homeowners
are asked to take classes on homeownership, finances
and home maintenance.
Home Maintenance Savings
Plan – Habitat deposits $100 of the
closing costs into a savings account. Thereafter
monthly additions are made by the new homeowner
into this account. After the house is paid off,
the savings are returned.

About the Home
The Valley of the Sun Habitat
home was constructed on N. 51st Drive in Glendale.
This home is a three bedroom, two bath, great room
floor plan. Construction of the home commenced on
February 11, 2006 and lasted sixteen consecutive
Saturdays.

About Habitat for Humanity / Valley
of the Sun
Habitat for Humanity, Valley of the Sun was founded
in 1987. Since 1987 HfH, VoS has completed construction
on more than 315 homes. The first planned Habitat
community in South Phoenix was called South Ranch.
It consists of 195 homes built for working families.
The newest planned community is Villas Esperanza
(“Village of Hope”) which is currently
under construction and also located in South Phoenix.
An estimated 1.25 million people in Arizona are
in need of affordable housing. The need continues
to
increase as Arizona is growing at a pace three
times that of the rest of the nation, placing
Phoenix as
the 5th largest city in the country.
